A Novel Approach to Multiplex PCR

Canon U.S. Life Sciences,Inc. (CLS) is developing sample cartridges that contain a network of miniaturized, microfabricated channels. As the instrument and software control the movement of test samples and chemical fluids through microfluidic channels, an integrated optical system detects the results of the experiment. Working in such a small and carefully controlled environment has allowed us to achieve ultra-rapid polymerase chain reactions (PCR).

CLS  platform will offer multiplex PCR testing capability, allowing the user to have multiple tests performed simultaneously on a single test sample. Unlike traditional multiplex analysis, which takes place in a single reaction, the CLS system is capable of performing sequential individual PCRs rapidly, thus achieving multiplex level testing with the reliability of individual PCR reliability, in approximately the same amount of time.
